MB Star C3 Star diagnostic system failed to work on Mercedes W204? Here is the customer solution. You are at your risk!
Problem:
I have DELL D630 with Xentry 09/2015 and Mercedes Benz Star diagnosis C3 multiplexer. I have connected many cars (W202, W203, W210, W211, W245, etc) and there is no problem with connection – everything is working like a charm. Some days ago, I have bought W204 C280 from 2007. After I choose model, engine and transmission, and I go to diagnostic I see this:
“The diagnosis application is being started…”
and few seconds later this:
“Initialization of the multiplexer has failed”
My Mux is not compatible with W204? I searched few hours without success.
Customer solution:
W204 and X204 is the last Mercedes models which working without some special modifications.
You can try:
First try in toolkit.ini delete line skipcomports=all and set line usecomport=2 then you will see in SDconnect toolkit PartD on display after mux connection.
First save your original file for sure.
Try look into C:\Userdata\Config\Xentry\driver – slave.ini and set there com port which you have used for PartD.
Report:
There was no change because I didn’t restarted system. After restart work perfect.
Your solution work perfectly! Probem solved. Everything is working like a charm.

User puzzles:
I have installed Xentry 9.2014 in Benz MB STAR C3 multiplexer. It works well so far. Now, I need to make diagnosis on mercedes w205 year 12/2014 but It can not communicate with the car. C3 don’t work in all recent cars in xentry but in DAS is ok.
Experienced users’ suggestion:
C3 has many limitation regarding latest vehicles in Xentry.
It can’t diagnose it e.g w205, w212, w222, w906, smart 453 etc.
its glory is already passed unless you deal only with vehicles in DAS.
you have to change to MB SD Compact C4
C4’s support also officially has been stop since 12-2015.
It is no different even you change folder.
it is different protocol with recent vehicles.
For your w205 (nice car) you can use one of this :

1.Insert usb wifi to the usb port on your computer;
2. Turn off the build-in wifi on the computer or make the additional wifi not work; that is, your usb wifi of your equipment is the only wifi on your computer. Don’t connect the wired Internet access to the Internet and equipment cable.
3. Press the button to make your computer start after you are sure that you have done all about Step 2.
4. Make sure that the network is turned off and cannot be connected to network cables.
This DWA-131 is your usb-wifi. It cannot be turned off. It is normal to show the mark of a red cross.
5. The software starts and choose WIFI for ICOM on Youobd2.
6. Connect Icom A2 to your vehicle and you will see that the lights of wlan do not flash or flash slowly after waiting for 20-60s.
It means that both usb wifi and icom A2 wifi are ok.
7. Now you can click diagnosis or programming software.
This prompt information is OK
8. Please minimize the interface for it is not allowed to be closed.
9. The equipment can be recognized normally.

I have the first generation AUTEL MaxiDAS DS808 KIT for many years, I love it because of its reasonable price and cost efficient function, but what a pity that it will not be updated any more.
Then you consider to have one Autel Maxidas DS808K full kit which adds extra special functions i.e injector coding, key coding, adaptation, ECU information, trouble codes, freeze frame, live data, active test and special functions. I have one small repair shop and have many different car brands fix, DS808 can fully meet my requirements.
It has many different vehicles’ diagnostic adapters which are not standard 16pin(see following pic). Maxidas DS808 is compatible to many US, European, Asian vehicles, user friendly and has software for different vehicle models and systems.
Its new CPU and LCD touch screen (7″ LCD 1024×600 resolution touch scrren), dramatically improved the entire users’experience, much more smooth comparing with DS708. Personally, I would recommend DS808 for those small shops with limit budgets. Of course, if money is not a problem, Maxisys Elite may be your good choice.It is smaller than ms906, so very handy.

Registering the device was easy. I simply go to autel’s website and set up an account. Once I do that I take the registration code/passcode from the scan tool and register it on the website. I then make sure that the scan tool is hooked up to my wifi which is setup in settings. Then I am ready to update the scan tool with the latest software.
Update Autel Maxidas DS808:
Make sure the Display Tablet is connected to a power source with stable access to the internet.
Tap the Update application button from the MaxiDAS Job Menu;or tap the update notification message when received one; or tap the Update icon on Vehicle Menu in Diagnostics application.
The Update application screen displays.
Check all available updates:
If you decide to update all the items, tap the Update All button.
If you only want to update one or some of the item(s), tap the Update button on the right column of the specific item(s).
Tap the Pause button to suspend the updating process. When you tap Continue to renew the update, the updating process will resume from the break point.
